In its 49th year, the Cal Poly Bull Test Sale continues to produce the highest performing, best valued genetics available today. The Bull Test provides the opportunity for people to select bulls from the strictest criteria imposed on any bull sale in the West.

Quarter Horse Enterprise

Students in the program start and train their assigned two-year old horses. The horses are trained to work cattle, ride on trails, and perform arena work like stops and turn-arounds. The project horses are sold at the National Reining Cow Horse Snaffle Bit Futurity in Reno, Nev. Students are responsible for developing a budget, the daily care of their horses and the marketing of their prospects.

Ranch Horse Enterprise

Find out about the hands-on experiences students can gain through the Ranch Horse Enterprise. The Ranch Horse Project is one of two advanced training and behavior modification enterprises available to students at Cal Poly. The project members are in charge and deal with all aspects of the sale which range from advertising, Web site development, sale catalog, auction setup and management, horse health management and of course, starting and riding the horses.

Western Bonanza

The 21st annual Western Bonanza Junior Livestock Show accommodated a record number of participants with 500 exhibitors entering more than 1560 head of livestock. With the help of all of the corporate and general sponsors, the Western Bonanza was able to raise an astounding $32,000 in award money allowing them to purchase outstanding awards. The total premium and award payout exceeded $50,000! Mark your calendar for President’s Day Weekend for the 2006 show.

Cal Poly Equestrian Team

Learn more about the award-winning Cal Poly Equestrian Team. The CPET provides students with a unique opportunity to develop strong teamwork , sportsmanship and horsemanship skills, and it is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association in which member colleges host shows and provide horses.
