Pete Agalos joined the animal science department in April 2004 to teach ASCI 324, advanced equine evaluation, ASCI 224, equine science, ASCI 344, equine and human communication, and coach Cal Poly's horse judging team to be fielded Fall Quarter 2004. Agalos received a bachelor's degree in animal science from Cal Poly and a master's degree in agricultural science from Cal Poly.

Agalos entered the agricultural industry from many directions. He worked as a ranch manager, a trainer and manager of a business that sent saddle horses to Japan and has extensive experience in production and marketing of alfalfa, cotton and grain.

He spent the last 11 years as an agricultural teacher at Arroyo Grande High School, where he coached 11 Future Farmers of America state championship horse judging teams, seven FFA national championship teams and one Quarter Horse Congress championship team. He currently owns and operates a training business called Agalos Cutting and Performance Horses.

“My game plan is to work hard and keep working hard. I expect my team (and students) to be committed and work just as hard as I do,” Agalos said.

Agalos is a member of the National Cutting Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association, the American Paint Horse Association, the American Horse Judging Team Coaches Association, the National Reining Cow Horse Association and the California Agricultural Teacher’s Association.
