Bill Plummer is the reproductive physiologist for the animal science department. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in animal science at North Carolina State University, he earned his doctorate degree in animal science at Utah State University.

Plummer performs reproductive soundness exams on all bulls brought to the Cal Poly Bull Test and on all bulls managed by the animal science department. He serves as a liaison for several biotechnology companies and students seeking jobs in this industry.

His quasi motto is "If it is mammalian and reproduces, I'm interested." Plummer’s research upholds this motto, with involvement in projects studying mice and elephants. His current research involves investigating the fertility of individual sperm. Recent research includes attempts to increase conception rates at the time of artificial insemination and studies of abnormal sperm morphology. Plummer teaches embryology, embryo manipulation and biotechnological applications. He teaches upper division reproductive physiology courses, undergraduate seminar and undergraduate research. He is co-adviser to the Veterinary Science Club.
